About the Encompass program
The Encompass program will offer you a chance for reflection, a series of challenges, and many opportunities for growth. This exciting adventure will be filled with fun and meaningful connection!
During the first part of the program, we will live at Batian’s View, an experiential education campus in Naro Moru, Kenya. Each day, we will have workshops and activities dedicated to helping students reflect and plan, on the one hand, and build leadership and group skills, on the other. We will also learn about Kenyan history, have lessons in basic Swahili, and connect with the community nearby. Walks and and long hikes will let us appreciate where we are, acclimate to the altitude, and prepare for our mountain trek. Underlying all of this will be a chance to consider one’s place in life, in the world, and in nature.
We will also venture out for a three-day, two-night wildlife safari to Samburu in northern Kenya. Later we will devote four days to climbing Mt. Kenya, Africa’s second highest mountain. Our trek will include a summit attempt to Point Lenana at 16,355 feet.
